Reviewer: Allison Martin Look Who's Talking begins with an overview of speech and language development, including influences, potential problems and causes. Complicating issues such as auditory processing, hearing, language delays, and developmental delays are discussed. One of the key features of this book is the very detailed descriptions provided for each age and developmental stage; parents of babies and older children will find this a helpful resource. Development, warning signs suggested activities, and guidance on seeking assistance are all discussed in detail. In addition, practical advice on related topics, including sign language, bilingualism, adoption, is provided. This book includes many activities that parents can do with their children to encourage language expression, accurate speech and reading ability. Many of these are fun for both parents and children, and can be incorporated into your daily activities. A whole chapter is devoted to musical activities you can do to encourage your child's abilities. I recommend this book to anyone who has concerns about their child's
speech or language. |
